Yes, I know, the first month of the year is almost over, but it's never too late to make resolutions.
Actually, I'm not sure if I like the word "resolutions." To me it means to resolve to do something. I plan to do something. Now I don't know about you, but my resolve isn't always so strong. Often I will tell myself to do something, do it a for a little while, and then start to get lazy. I'm assuming that's how resolutions often get broken some time or another; your resolve has weakened and you start to slip. That's why I like the word "goals" better for this situation. It means the intent to do something, to accomplish something, by a certain time.

I took a course in university that had us create a hypothetical health education program, and to do that we were encouraged to create SMART goals. No, I didn't just yell SMART to emphasize it; it's actually a mnemonic for things to keep in mind when creating goals:
S - Specific
M - Measurable
A - Attainable
R - Realistic
T - Timely
Making sure your goal is a SMART goal means you are more likely to meet it and, more importantly, know that you've met it. It's quite a lot to keep in mind when making a goal, but I assure you it's all worth it.
So, what are my goals for 2016?
- Be hired on to a TOC list in a local school district.
- Start and continue cardio kickboxing as a way to keep fit and learn a new skill
- Learn how to and go paddle boarding
- Learn how to and go snowboarding
- Keep updating this blog! Start with a post every 2 weeks and work to 2 posts a week by years end
- Read at least 6 books
Not the longest list, but I think it's doable. Of course, I'll update you along the way :)
